Gratitude for Teachers / Agradecido por los maestros
"I feel incredibly grateful for the teachers and principals that I routinely interact with through our Bridge to Nature program.
Taking kids out of their school day to explore all the places of wild character that are a part of their home in Santa Barbara is a big task that is entirely outside of a typical school's mode of operation. The principals have made it a priority to support our program and the teachers are there every step of the way, helping us register the kids, making sure they have lunches, water bottles and extra clothes.
And most importantly, the teachers are there when we return eager to hear about the kids' adventures and discoveries.
This past Thursday, when a group of Franklin fourth graders returned from an epic day at Rincon, Mr. Rodriguez and the remaining students clapped and cheered like we had just finished a marathon.
That kind of recognition - even though it is typically outside a school's mandate - validates the kids' experience. It lets them know that finding joy outside, connecting with the land on which they live, and learning through recreation and play are good choices to make, in fourth grade and for the rest of their lives."
